The Fixing Proteomics Campaign Manifesto |
|||||
Do you believe in the future of Proteomics research?We do! Everything is in place; the potential to make a discovery is easier than ever using improved techniques and analysis approaches. There is a growing sense of frustration that proteomics as a discipline hasn't delivered on its promise. People are turning to the latest, greatest technologies for a solution, but the challenges don't go away; they just become different and often increase. This means funding has slowed down for many proteomics projects, key projects and people are being refocused away from proteomics and there is a lot of insecurity about the future.
Founding the Fixing Proteomics CampaignWe have a choice. We can either do nothing or we can help. Together with key opinion leaders we are creating a community of proteomics scientists with the Fixing Proteomics Campaign. The campaign aims to bring together expertise and best practices that will maintain a high-profile for this important field into the future. The message we want to share, is that proteomics has delivered and can continue to make a huge impact on our understanding of biology and generating new drugs. With the technological advances created over the last 10 years making a discovery is now easier than ever. The challenge has become finding out if the discovery is real, reliable and reproducible. All the tools are there to do this; but there is more we can do to help proteomics become what it needs to be. This campaign is about trying to change current perceptions about how to do proteomics. It's about creating a change in people's mind set to make what we are doing more effective - and it's only going to happen if all the people passionate about proteomics work together.
How can I learn more about the Fixing Proteomics Campaign?This project hopes to create a common language that can be used to easily share the complex ideas about complex issues which we believe can make a real difference to proteomics. We have presented these ideas as short and memorable analogies, or you can watch the Fixing Proteomics Campaign video. The analogies aren't meant to be patronising and they certainly aren't comprehensive. They are just a start to get everyone thinking. We hope that many more will be introduced by the proteomics community as discussions develop. If they work for you, we would love for you to share them with anyone else who you think should see them. Please pass on Fixing Proteomics Campaign website as many times as you like. |
