Band picking for 1-D electrophoresis gels

Nonlinear Dynamics and Amersham Biosciences collaborate to automate protein picking from bands in 1-D electrophoresis gels

(Newcastle upon Tyne, UK). Nonlinear Dynamics Ltd, a leading provider of innovative bioinformatics solutions, announces that they have collaborated with Amersham Biosciences to provide a solution allowing scientists to pick protein bands from 1-D gels for subsequent mass spectrometry. This has recently been identified as an important step in proteomics research.

Spot picking from 2-D gels has been done for some time now but as proteome research becomes more sophisticated it is recognized that scientists have an increasing need to pick protein bands from 1-D gels. The two companies have been working together to integrate Nonlinear's well-established 1-D electrophoresis analysis product with Amersham Biosciences's EttanÔ Spot Picker Robot to provide a complete solution.
