UK Universities choose 2D image analysis solutions from Nonlinear Dynamics

(Newcastle upon Tyne, UK) Nonlinear Dynamics Ltd, a leading provider of bioinformatics solutions, announced that three UK universities have recently upgraded their existing 2D analysis software to products from Nonlinear's comprehensive new range. Nonlinear are the only company to offer eight different 2D analysis solutions to suit the changing needs of the 2D analysis community.

The first institution, the University of Newcastle upon Tyne, has purchased Progenesis™ Workstation as part of their new proteomics suite following a year of testing and evaluating a range of solutions. The powerful analysis capabilities and high levels of automation in Progenesis Workstation enable thorough investigation of large-scale 2D gel data sets. Dr Nick Morris, of the University's School of Cell and Molecular Biosciences, said "We spent a good deal of time evaluating all available packages and comparing them against the needs of our laboratory. Progenesis Workstation offered the best fit and we felt that Nonlinear's support would provide us with the reassurance we need. Nonlinear's penalty-free upgrade options also will enable the facility to grow as our needs evolve."

The other two institutions have chosen Phoretix™ 2D Evolution as their new analysis solution. The Biological Science Department at Durham University is one of them. Dr Bill Simon said, "We are very pleased to be able to announce our purchase of this new product from Nonlinear Dynamics. Phoretix 2D Evolution provides us with a level of consistency and automation which has enabled us to get far more from our 2D research efforts."

The Technology Facility within the Department of Biology at York University has also recently been upgraded to Phoretix 2D Evolution. Dr Peter Ashton said, "As we have equipped the new Technology facility, we have been re-evaluating the technologies available to drive the efforts of the facility forward over the coming years. We have upgraded our previous license of Nonlinear's 2D product to Evolution and are very happy with the significant benefits which this offers us."

Phoretix 2D Evolution is the professional solution for routine 2D experiments. Logical experiment set up - including analysis protocol management for repeat studies - bypasses laborious parameter definition, enhancing consistency in the analysis process. The intuitive interface and excellent data visualisation tools allow you to focus on areas for further investigation and analysis.

John Spreadbury, Group Sales and Marketing Director of Nonlinear Dynamics, said, "The needs of those using 2D gel electrophoresis have diversified enormously over the last three or four years, which led to our development of a comprehensive portfolio of eight products for the analysis and data-mining of 2D gels. The uptake throughout the market at all levels has been very encouraging. These important sales to three universities within the UK illustrate these evolving needs, which can be fulfilled through Nonlinear's preferential product upgrade offers."
