Progenesis SameSpots and its statistic tools have become indispensable in our gel based proteomics workflows.

What is Progenesis SameSpots?

Progenesis SameSpots analyses 2D gel images using an alignment based approach which is proven to generate reproducible results. It includes a gel QC workflow, and the tools to carry out a detailed investigation of your data through to spot picking and reporting. It can be used for protein expression studies and the analysis of secondary stained gels.

Key benefits

Using Progenesis SameSpots, you’ll benefit from:

The speed to run enough replicates for valid conclusions

The alignment based analysis approach developed for Progenesis SameSpots has significantly improved the time taken to analyse gels compared to traditional analysis approaches. Typical analysis times are less than 5 minutes per gel, so it is realistic to run enough replicates in your experiment to control for biological variation.

Different users – same answer

The software has been designed to require minimal user intervention. SameSpots contains many automatic processes so an objective analysis is achievable and different users in the same lab can get the same results.

100% matching and no missing values

Accurate gel alignment accounts for gel distortions and positions all spots in exactly the same location. Spot detection produces a complete data set as all gels contain the same number of spots, each matched to its corresponding spot on all gels. There are no missing values allowing valid multivariate statistical analysis to be applied. Tests included are Anova p-value, False Discovery Rate (q-values), Principal Components Analysis (PCA), Correlation Analysis and Power Analysis.

Cross-lab reproducibility

Progenesis SameSpots helps you overcome the challenge of cross-lab reproducibility so you can be confident you are reporting actual biological changes, rather than artefacts of an experimental approach. The HUPO Reproducibility Study proves that protein expression is reproducible across labs and highly reproducible within lab.

Answer to the common question, "Is my lab running gels in a reproducible manner?"

Progenesis SameSpots has an integrated gel QC workflow called SpotCheck. It allows you to quickly and objectively measure whether a 2D gel meets your lab’s quality requirements.

Link protein IDs and spot data so you can see the whole picture

Progenesis SameSpots supports the integration of MS-based protein identifications (from Mascot or a .csv file). This helps put your 2D results into biological context as you can view the protein IDs alongside the spot measurements from which they originated. You can also use molecular weight markers to help you confirm the accuracy of your IDs.

As you work through your analysis you can add images and tables to a clip gallery to help with the production of publications, posters and presentations. They are saved as high resolution .png files (300 dpi) which are ideal for print and you have the option to add some notes for future reference. The clip gallery contents can be exported to a memory stick so they can be accessed at your convenience.
