The Department of Environmental Health Sciences at the Istituto di Ricerche Farmacologiche "Mario Negri" have been using Progenesis SameSpots since January 2007. The software has drastically simplified their proteomics workflow and accelerated their data analysis so they can include more replicates in their experiment design and produce statistically superior results.

The proteomics platform was set up in May 2006 and has developed quantitative proteomics based on the use of DIGE and iTRAQ™. They chose Progenesis SameSpots for its ease of use and accurate alignment which gives 100% matching and have been so pleased with the software they have recommended it to fellow proteomics researchers.

The Cardiac Proteomics group uses 2D gel electrophoresis to identify protein changes in heart disease. Since the introduction of Progenesis SameSpots their speed of analysis has been vastly improved - analysis that would have previously taken days can now be completed in a few hours. Their research has also benefitted from the statistical power of Progenesis SameSpots as they routinely use the PCA analysis to check for outlying samples. Removal of these samples, where warranted, can prevent problems further along in the analysis.
